January 2017 Race Results

The first race of 2017 is in the books.  Two new racers joined the group this month, Louisa and Reed.  The wind was up and down and then up again.  The course was setup near the Baldwin Park Gazebo.  Multiple times there were three boats rounding a mark all together, giving spectators a good show.  The point totals for the day were all separated by just one point each.  Rick and Louisa took first place.  The fun will continue next month, Feb 12th.

2016 Fall Fling and September Race Results

There was a good showing at the Fall Fling. Fifteen sailors showed up to share food and stories. While the food was coming off the grill, the lake was lying still. Where were the nine knots of wind called for in the forecast? Grumbling spread throughout the group. Just as the boats were getting loaded on the dollies, the weather man made good on his promise as a strong breeze came in. Ten of the Fling attendees soon took to the water for the September race, while two others got rigged up to watch and do some fun sailing of their own. All six Hunter 140’s were on the water! Rain threatened from the east, but it stayed there while creating excellent racing conditions on Lake Baldwin.

There were no photo finishes at this race, but the overall points were remarkably close. In A Fleet, third and fourth place were determined by a tie breaker, with both boats scoring eight points each. This tie went to Matt and Dinielle because they had a first place finish while Rick and Gavin did not. First and second place were also determined by a tie breaker. Each boat scored seven points, just one point less than third and fourth! Kurt and Myk took first over Penny and Charlie as this tie breaker was determined by who had the best finish in the last of the three races.

August 2016 Race Results

The racing is always good on Lake Baldwin. No crowds on the water. We sail far enough away to silence the barking dogs. The weather was cooperative this month, no rain and some challenging winds. One unexpected gust blew one boat over just as they crossed the finish line. Three JY15’s took to rigging on dry land and launched from the dock. Climbing aboard a small dingy, has to be done nimbly. No one fell in the water. Racing was close. More than once all three boats converged on a mark at the same time. Everyone got around with out fouling. Kurt and Penny took first place for the day. The 2016 season scores now have Kurt and Charlie sharing first place. Rick is just four points behind. With the hot sun beginning it’s retreat, we hope to see a few more faces in September.

July 2016 Race Results

On the heels of a Florida summer thunderstorm, the club took out four Hunter 140’s for the July sailing race. We had four experienced racers paired up with four first-timers. The afternoon storm didn’t leave us much wind.  But, it was enough to keep the boats moving.  Penny proved to be the best at finding the elusive air, taking first place for the day and narrowly missing a first place sweep of all three races.  With Rick being absent, all of the A Fleet was able to gain some ground in the overall 2016 series.  Charlie is now in first place, followed by Kurt and Rick.  Watch out for Penny, as she is making ground after some early season absences.
